Why am I seeing a Microsoft Windows Defender SmartScreen warning?
Treasury Software has a new digital signing certificate and this may be causing a Microsoft Defender SmartScreen popup / warning upon installing.
When a certificate is renewed - SmartScreen may temporarily show a message.
Overview
You may encounter a Windows SmartScreen prompt when downloading or installing newer versions of Treasury Software in the short-term.
This is expected behavior and does not indicate a security risk.
Why this message appears
Microsoft Defender's message will include text like "isn't commonly downloaded" and/or that it is "an unrecognized app".
This is Microsoft Defender stating that it has has not yet had enough downloads to build a history.
When a new certificate is renewed—SmartScreen may temporarily show a message until reputation is rebuilt.
Is Treasury Software safe?
Yes.
Treasury Software:
--Is digitally signed and verified
--Has been trusted by banks and businesses for over two decades
--Maintains strict internal security and testing protocols
--Has not introduced any security-related changes in this release
What should I do?
If Microsoft Defender's message includes text like "isn't commonly downloaded" and/or that it is "an unrecognized app", then it is affirming the statements above - and we would recommend continuing with the installation (see step-by-step below).
How long will this continue for?
Once Defender builds enough history, new users will no longer see the prompt.
