To use the International (IAT) format with our ACH Universal product, you’ll need the Advanced edition of Treasury Software. Pricing Page Link
Cross-border transactions, such as payments between U.S. and Canadian banks, require the IAT (International ACH Transaction) format. The IAT Standard Entry Class Code supports both credit and debit transactions and includes detailed information specific to international payments.
Because the IAT format is significantly more complex than traditional CCD or PPD files, processing an IAT file requires bank approval
Unlike CCD and PPD files, which require only four fields (Name, Amount, ABA/Routing, and Account Number), the IAT format involves over 40 required fields.
ACH Universal provides multiple ways to create IAT records, including Point-and-Click, Simple Import, Complete Import, and QuickBooks integration.
Below is an outline of the recommended simple import method:
Create an IAT Account in Treasury Software
1. Click on: File
2 Click New account
3. Create an account... Type in a name such as 'International IAT'... continue until "Finished."
Enter The Banking Information
1. Click on the ACH Setup gear.
2. Enter your banking information on the first screen.
3. Select the “Advanced Setup” radio button to navigate to the next screen.
1. Continue to enter additional banking information onto screen 3.
2. Be sure to select IAT as the SEC code from the dropdown menu on screen 3.
3. Continue to slide 7 of 7 by clicking: ”Next”> “Advanced”>”Next”>”Next”>”Finish.”
Begin The IAT Setup
1. Click Settings on the Treasury Software ribbon bar.
2. Click IAT International.
3. Click Settings within the IAT pop up window.
4. Enter the Gateway Operator Number (This is often your bank’s routing number).
5. Select the radio button for a U.S. based (outbound) or Non-U.S. based (inbound) account.
6. Choose the Simple IAT setting.
7. Click Save Required Settings.
Add YOUR Company Profile Information and Select YOUR Default Profile
Once “Save Required Settings” is selected, the software will switch to the Transactions and Profiles tab.
If you are entering multiple profiles, fill in the left side of the screen. Then choose "Save profile."
If you are only creating one profile, choose “Set this profile as the default.”
Field descriptions for the Transactions and Profiles tab are available (below) for reference.
You may save multiple IAT profiles within Treasury Software.
Be sure to click “save profile” after creating each profile.
If you have multiple IAT profiles:
When you are ready to import transactions (next section), you will click on the drop down under “Your Company Profiles,” then select “This is the default profile.”
Import Transactions
Once you have selected your default profile, you can:
1. add one record or transaction at a time.
2. import multiple transactions using an Excel or CSV file
Create an IAT File with One Record or Transaction by "Adding A Record:"
1. Click on the "Home" tab.
2. Click the dropdown under "Add a Record."
3. Click "International."
4. Enter all receiver information (on the right-hand side of the screen).
5. Enter the transaction information.
6. Click "Save and Close."
7. Click "Go to Create ACH File Page."
8. Click "Create ACH File." This will create your IAT file.
Create an IAT File with Either One or Multiple Transactions by Importing an Excel or CSV File:
If you choose to import an Excel or CSV file, remember to map all fields! All fields noted below are required to be mapped - even if they are empty (blank), or of $0.00 amount.
Failure to import all of the fields may result in the inability of ACH Universal to create a proper transaction.
Other omissions may allow the transaction to be created, however, the file may ultimately be rejected by the NACHA network.
The Sample Excel Template can be Found Here:
Green Header Row: Provides the name of the corresponding mapping fields within Treasury Software.
Blue Header Row: Provides additional information for some fields.
Orange Header Row: Provides the Nacha field names and positions on the IAT Nacha file.
Once you have entered your transaction data into the IAT Excel template, click on the "Import Transactions" icon on the Home Page to start the Import Wizard.
Select your IAT Excel file, then click 'Next'.
We have pre-mapped the fields to match the Excel template.
Mapping Fields
Below are screen shots of the fields as shown in the Sample account, along with Sample data.
We recommend using the file below as a template (included with ACH Universal):
C:\Users\Public\Treasury Software\Tutorial\ACHData\International - IAT.xls
Note: The data samples below indicate the range of data that should be imported.
